Accepted ID and the Name Match Rule
You must present one form of valid identification to be admitted into the examination area, and the BACB is specific about what counts. The ID must be government issued and original, not a photocopy or a digital ID, and it must include your signature, a recognizable photo, and a current, unexpired date. Acceptable forms include an international travel passport, a driver’s license, a military ID, a national, state, or province identification card, or an alien registration card such as a green card, permanent resident card, or visa.
The name on that ID must match your first and last name exactly as they appear in your BACB portal account. Any discrepancy prevents admission to the exam, so if you have changed your name since applying, update your BACB portal account before your appointment rather than at the testing center. Presenting a fake ID can invalidate your exam result and expose you to further disciplinary action by the BACB, and being admitted to the testing center never guarantees that your identification, or your result, will hold up to later review.
Check In at the Testing Center
Checking in takes real time, which is why the BACB advises arriving about 30 minutes early. The process includes verifying your identification, agreeing to the Testing Center rules, a palm vein scan, and a digital photograph. It is conducted in English only; translators and interpreters, whether print, electronic, or in person, are not permitted unless you have an approved accommodation on file. If you cannot complete check in for any reason, you will be turned away from the testing center and all paid fees are forfeited, so resolve any ID or documentation issue well before appointment day.
What to Bring and What to Leave at Home
Once check in is complete, the only items you carry into the exam area are your ID and your locker key. Everything else stays outside the testing room in secure storage the center provides; the BACB is not responsible for anything lost, stolen, or damaged there.

Storage, Breaks, and Leaving the Room
Secure lockers hold your belongings for the length of your appointment. Breaks are unscheduled, meaning you take them on your own time rather than at set intervals, but the exam clock does not stop while you are out of the room; any time spent on a break comes out of your 90 minutes. You may not leave the testing center or the building at any point during your exam; the handbook states you cannot leave the building at any time during your examination. During a break you cannot access your phone, other electronic devices, or notes, but you can access food, drink, or medication from your locker. Earplugs are available on request at every testing center, and some also offer noise canceling headphones. Because you cannot bring scratch paper, the center supplies a dry erase board for working through questions.
Late Arrival, No Shows, and Fees
As of September 2026, arriving more than 30 minutes after your scheduled appointment time means Pearson VUE turns you away and your scheduling fee is forfeited; there is no partial credit for a late arrival. Failing to show up at all carries the same consequence: your scheduling fee is forfeited and you must reschedule. In either case, you can book a new appointment through your Pearson VUE account within 24 hours of the missed appointment, but you will need to pay the Pearson VUE examination appointment fee again to secure it. Getting Your Results
The RBT exam is scored pass or fail, and in most instances you see that result at the testing center right after you finish. The BACB itself cannot view or generate a copy of your score report; for that, you log in to your Pearson VUE account and select View Score Reports. If you pass, you receive an email from the BACB typically within 24 hours, and within about a week at the latest (the handbook gives both figures in different sections), confirming your certification, and your listing appears on the BACB Certificant Registry around the same time, though your status begins inactive until a qualified RBT Supervisor or Requirements Coordinator adds you as a supervisee.
